Mighty BMW 5 Series gets a long-wheelbase upgrade
Triple launch from BMW Group! On July 24th, they’re unveiling three new rides in India:
The all-new, long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series: This is the first time the 5 Series will be offered in this stretched version, putting it head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The next-gen Mini Cooper S: This sporty hatchback gets a modern makeover.
The all-electric Mini Countryman E: This electric SUV brings Mini’s signature style with zero emissions.
Introducing the king-size BMW! Get ready for the first-ever long-wheelbase 5 Series in India. This new model aims to steal the crown from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB (arriving later this year) by being the biggest player in the segment. Here’s the lowdown:
At 5,175mm long, it’s a behemoth compared to the outgoing 5 Series and even the 6 Series GT (which it replaces).
- Sporty first impression: Launching only in the 530Li M Sport guise, expect a sporty look to match its impressive size.
- Price to be revealed: While details are still under wraps, expect a heftier price tag than the current 6 Series GT (Rs 73.5 lakh – Rs 78.9 lakh).
Engine and Performance:
- The launch model, 530Li M Sport, likely packs a powerful turbocharged petrol engine, possibly a 3.0-liter inline-six similar to the outgoing model. This could translate to around 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.
- Other engine options, including a diesel variant, might be introduced later.
- The M Sport trim suggests a focus on sporty handling with features like a stiffer suspension and upgraded brakes.
Technology and Features:
- Expect the latest BMW innovations like a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system with the latest iDrive software, and a suite of driver-assistance features.
- The long-wheelbase design prioritizes rear passenger comfort, so features like individual climate control and ample legroom are likely.
- We might also see advancements in connectivity and semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

- Other competitors might include the Audi A6L and the Jaguar XF.
