Hyundai Unveils Inster EV: An Affordable Electric Option

Hyundai has introduced the Inster EV, their most affordable electric car for the global market. The Inster takes inspiration from the popular Casper sub-compact city car but with a longer platform for more space.

  Two Electric Powertrain Choices: The Inster offers two battery pack options, allowing you to choose the range that best suits your needs.

  Smart and Spacious Interior: The cabin features clever folding seats to maximize functionality and passenger or cargo space.

  Advanced Safety Technology: The Inster comes equipped with a 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control for enhanced safety and driver assistance.

Hyundai Inster: An Electric City Car Built for the Global Market

Hyundai is entering the global market for affordable electric city cars with the Inster. This new offering is based on the popular Casper subcompact car, but Hyundai has stretched the platform by 23 centimeters (9 inches) to create more space. In particular, 18 centimeters (7 inches) of that extra length is dedicated to giving the Inster more room for passengers and a larger battery pack under the floor. This design choice suggests that Hyundai is prioritizing both practicality and driving range with the Inster.

Hyundai Inster: Compact Size, Spacious Interior

Despite being a touch shorter than the Citroen eC3 at 3.8 meters long, 1.6 meters wide, and a mere 1.6 millimeters tall, the Inster packs a surprisingly functional five-seat cabin. Hyundai boasts that the Inster offers multiple seating configurations to maximize its usefulness. All four seats can fold entirely flat, and the two rear seats can both slide and recline. This flexibility allows you to prioritize either passenger legroom or cargo space depending on your needs.

The Inster offers two choices for battery and motor, allowing you to find the perfect balance between range and power for your needs:

  • Standard Range: This option comes with a 96 horsepower front-mounted electric motor paired with a 42kWh battery pack. It offers a 0-100 kph acceleration time of 11.7 seconds and a top speed of 140 kph. With this configuration, you can expect a driving range of around 300 kilometers on a single charge.
  • Long Range: If you prioritize longer journeys, the long-range Inster boasts a 113 horsepower motor and a slightly larger 49kWh battery. This translates to a quicker acceleration of 10.6 seconds from 0-100 kph and a higher top speed of 150 kph. More importantly, the long-range model extends your driving range to around 350 kilometers per charge.
