Genesis luxury vehicles are expected to arrive in India by late 2025.
Hyundai is aiming to enter the booming Indian luxury car market with its Genesis brand by the end of 2025. A dedicated team is working on the launch strategy, with a focus on luxury SUVs. This confirms earlier reports about Hyundai’s plans to bring Genesis to India and compete with established brands.
Genesis is setting the stage for its Indian debut with luxury SUVs. The exact launch strategy is still under development, but the GV70, GV80, and potentially the upcoming GV90 are strong contenders. This move reflects Hyundai’s commitment to the luxury car market in India. Initially, these SUVs might be imported (CBU), with plans for local assembly at their Chennai plant.
This mid-size SUV goes head-to-head with popular choices like the Mercedes GLC and Audi Q5.
The GV80 is a popular Genesis SUV and a potential entrant for the Indian market. Launched in 2020, it recently received updates to stay relevant.
Like the GV70, it offers a variety of gasoline and hybrid engines. It also boasts a sportier sibling, the GV80 Coupe, featuring a sleek, tapered roofline.
This mid-size SUV rivals established names like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and BMW X5.
Genesis offers the GV60 electric SUV, competing with established EVs like the BMW iX1 and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
The highly anticipated GV90, recently showcased as a concept, might join the Indian lineup later. This full-size SUV could challenge titans like the Mercedes-Benz GLS, potentially even the luxurious GLS Maybach.

Luxury Cars Boom in India
India’s luxury car market is on a hot streak, growing much faster than the overall car market. Despite this surge, luxury cars still only account for a small fraction (1.5-2%) of total car sales. However, 2024 is poised to be a landmark year, with luxury car sales projected to exceed 50,000 units for the first time. While industry experts predict moderate growth below 5%, luxury carmakers themselves are bullish, expecting double-digit growth in 2024.
