Bookings open for Mini cooper
Great news for Mini fans in India! You can now reserve your spot for the all-new 2024 Cooper S. Mini India is taking pre-orders on their official website with a booking amount of Rs 1 lakh. The car itself is expected to be launched very soon.
The iconic Mini Cooper S is now available for pre-order! While it keeps the familiar 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, this new generation gets a boost in power and torque for an even sportier ride.
The new Mini Cooper gets a modern look
The new Mini Cooper S stays true to its classic look but with some sharper edges for a more modern vibe. The signature round headlights are here to stay, but get a fresh LED design. Up front, the grille adopts a less curvy look. On the sides, new diamond-cut alloy wheels add some shine, while the back boasts brand-new taillights with sleek arrowhead LEDs tied together by a black trim that proudly displays the Mini name.
Inside, the Mini Cooper S keeps things clean and simple, but with some key upgrades. The center takes center stage with a much larger, 9.45-inch round touchscreen infotainment system. The steering wheel gets a contemporary makeover and features the new Mini emblem. The most significant change might be the dashboard, which ditches the traditional instrument cluster entirely. The gear selector also finds a new home, moving from the center console to a panel below the touchscreen alongside the handbrake button, turn-key starter, driving mode selector, and audio controls.
More Power, More Speed: The New Mini Cooper S Engine and Performance
The new Mini Cooper S packs a punch under the hood! It retains the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine from before, but with a significant boost. It now cranks out 204 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, a jump of 26 horsepower and 20 Nm compared to the previous model. All that power is channeled to the front wheels through a smooth-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Mini says this zippy setup propels the Cooper S from 0 to 100 kph in a mere 6.6 seconds.
Price and Availability: A Premium Hatch with a Potential Price Bump
While the official price hasn’t been announced, the outgoing Cooper S starts at Rs 42.70 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the new model to carry a slight premium. Initially, Mini will launch the Cooper S only with the petrol engine. If you’re looking for an electric option, you’ll have to wait for the next-generation Mini Cooper EV to arrive later this year.

Standing Out from the Crowd: Not Quite a Direct Rival
The new Mini Cooper S carves out its niche. While it doesn’t have a direct competitor, it will likely challenge entry-level luxury cars and SUVs in the market. Think of it as a rival to the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, Audi Q3, and BMW 2 Series, offering a unique blend of performance, style, and a touch of practicality in a compact package.
