BMW’s Skytop Concept hints at a V8-powered roadster to come.

BMW debuted the Concept Skytop, a glimpse into a future high-end two-seater grand tourer with a V8, at the recent Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza. (This version emphasizes the futuristic and luxurious aspects).

The Concept Skytop boasts a near-production-ready open-top design with a removable Targa roof and a built-in roll hoop. Though conceived as a one-time project, BMW hints the Concept Skytop could see production if it generates enough buzz.

BMW describes the Concept Skytop as the pinnacle of both dynamic performance and timeless elegance, echoing the legacy of legendary models like the Z8 and 503. Its design stays true to classic BMW Gran Turismo proportions, featuring a stretched hood, a set-back cabin, a generous wheelbase, and a gracefully sloping rear end.

The Concept Skytop proudly wears the brand’s signature twin-kidney grille, illuminated for a contemporary touch. Flanking it are razor-thin LED headlights, their sharp lines mirrored by the imposing vents sculpted into the long bonnet. At the rear, a distinctive central crease echoes the bonnet’s design, culminating in a subtle ducktail spoiler that hints at the car’s performance capabilities.

Luxurious Comfort Meets Modern Tech:

Stepping inside the Concept Skytop reveals a haven of rich brown leather upholstery. BMW’s cutting-edge iDrive infotainment system takes center stage, offering intuitive control for all your in-car needs. A fully digital display keeps the driver informed, while a familiar automatic shifter and a conventional multifunction steering wheel provide a comfortable and recognizable driving experience.

BMW keeps the Concept Skytop’s exact specs under wraps for now, but whispers suggest it might pack a punch. The most potent contender? A 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the very same beast that propels top-of-the-line M cars and unleashes a staggering 643 horsepower in its most extreme configuration.
