Big changes for the BMW M3: More Power, AWD, and Competition Only

The iconic BMW M3 receives a significant revamp, with some key things to note:

Goodbye base M3, hello M3 Competition: The standard rear-wheel-drive M3 is no more. The Competition variant, previously offered alongside the base model, is now the only option. The M3 gets a power bump! The familiar twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine (code B58) receives a 20hp boost thanks to an ECU remap, pushing output to 530hp and a hefty 650Nm of torque. This puts it squarely in line with rivals like the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E performance. The new M3 ditches rear-wheel drive for a new all-wheel-drive system (xDrive) with a rear bias. It prioritizes handling like a traditional M3 but can send all power to the rear wheels for purists who disable stability control.

Unleashing the Beast: How the New M3 Pushes Performance Limits

The new M3 extracts maximum power at a higher engine speed (6,250 rpm) compared to the previous model (5,600 rpm). This translates to a more aggressive feel towards the top of the rev range. The M3 delivers its peak torque (650 Nm) for a longer duration in the rev range (up to 5,730 rpm from 5,500 rpm). This translates to a stronger pull throughout acceleration.

These changes are designed to optimize performance on the track, offering a more aggressive and sustained power delivery for high-performance driving. The result of these upgrades is clear as this M3 now rockets from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.5 seconds, a significant 0.4-second improvement over the previous model.

Explosive Acceleration caused both the sedan and M3 Touring to see a 0.5-second improvement in the 0-200 kph sprint, taking 11.8 seconds and 12.4 seconds respectively.

Top Speed Options:

The electronically limited top speed remains at 250 kph. However, for those seeking even more exhilaration, the M Driver’s Package can be optioned, raising the limit to 290 kph for the sedan and 280 kph for the M3 Touring.

Exterior specifications

The new M3 sports a subtly revised design with all-new arrow-shaped LED headlights for a more aggressive appearance. New alloy wheel designs grace the M3, with a split size setup: 19 inches up front and 20 inches at the rear. You’ll also find new color options for the wheels themselves and redesigned M3 badges for a distinctive touch.
