Audi Introduces Naming Strategy for EVs and ICE Vehicles

Audi has announced a new naming strategy for its electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Under the new strategy, even numbers will use for EVs and odd numbers for ICE vehicles. This will make it easier for customers to distinguish between the two types of vehicles, especially as Audi expands its EV lineup in the coming years.

The new naming strategy will be implement starting with the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron, which will be unveil in 2023. The A6 e-tron will be the first Audi EV to be name using an even number. Other upcoming Audi EVs, such as the Q6 e-tron and A8 e-tron, will also use even numbers.

Existing Audi EVs, such as the e-tron and e-tron GT, will not rename. However, Audi has said that it may drop the “e-tron” suffix from future EV names, as the even number will be sufficient to indicate that the vehicle is electric.

Audi’s new naming strategy is similar to the approach that has adopt by other automakers, such as BMW and Volvo. BMW uses odd numbers for its ICE vehicles and even numbers for its EV models. Volvo uses the prefix “XC” for its SUVs and “C” for its sedans, with the addition of a “40” or “60” suffix to indicate the vehicle’s powertrain. For example, the Volvo XC40 Recharge is an electric SUV, while the Volvo XC60 is a gasoline-powered SUV.

Audi’s new naming strategy is a simple and effective way to help customers distinguish between its EV and ICE vehicles. This is especially important as more and more people consider buying an EV. The new strategy will make it easier for customers to find the right Audi for their needs.
