BYD to launch a more affordable Atto 3

BYD India is getting ready to unveil a new addition to their electric vehicle lineup on July 10th. Reports suggest it’ll be a more affordable version of their existing SUV with a smaller battery. This could shake things up in the Indian EV market.

BYD Unveils More Affordable Option

Get ready for a new BYD Atto 3! They’re launching a version with a smaller battery, bringing the price down. This new variant is expected to compete directly with the top-of-the-line MG ZS EV.

  • Smaller battery: This variant packs a 50kWh battery compared to the current 60.48kWh unit. While the range will likely be a bit shorter, it should still offer a decent distance on a single charge.
  • More competitive price: BYD is aiming for a price range of Rs 26 lakh to Rs 28 lakh, which would undercut their current Atto 3 (priced at Rs 33.99 lakh) and put them in the same ballpark as the MG ZS EV (priced from Rs 18.98 lakh to Rs 25.20 lakh).

This new Atto 3 variant could be a game-changer for BYD, making their electric SUV more accessible to a wider range of buyers in the Indian market.

BYD Might Trim Features and Maybe Power

To hit that lower price point, BYD might remove some features from the new Atto 3 variant. It’s unclear exactly which features will get the axe, so stay tuned for updates.

There’s also a question about the motor’s power. The current Atto 3 packs 204hp and 310Nm of torque. It will be interesting to see if BYD keeps the same punch in this new, more affordable version, or if they slightly reduce the power output to further manage costs.

The new, more affordable BYD Atto 3 variant won’t just challenge the MG ZS EV. It’s also expected to be a strong competitor for a whole new wave of electric SUVs hitting the market soon, including:

  • Tata Harrier EV
  • Mahindra XUV.e8
  • Hyundai Creta EV
  • Maruti eVX

It’s still too early to say. The launch of the new BYD Atto 3 variant and the arrival of the other upcoming electric SUVs will paint a clearer picture. However, this competition is sure to benefit Indian consumers with a wider range of electric SUV options at potentially attractive prices.
