The Tata Punch CNG is a welcome addition to the subcompact SUV segment. It offers great fuel efficiency, a spacious and comfortable interior and a host of features. It is sure to be a popular choice among buyers looking for a fuel-efficient and practical SUV.
The Punch CNG is available in three trim levels – Pure, Adventure and Creative. It is priced starting at Rs. 6.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Tata Motors has revealed the fuel efficiency of its much-awaited Punch CNG. The subcompact SUV delivers a class-leading 26.5 kmpl in the city and 30.4 kmpl on the highway. This makes it the most fuel-efficient CNG-powered subcompact SUV in India.
The Punch CNG is powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine that produces 73.4 horsepower and is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Punch CNG uses the same 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine as the petrol-powered version. However, it is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission.
In petrol mode, the engine produces 86 horsepower and 113 Newton-meters of torque. In CNG mode, the power output reduces to 73.4 horsepower and the torque output reduces to 103 Newton-meters.
Tata Motors expects the Punch CNG to deliver a fuel efficiency of around 27 kmpl. The company has shared an official figure of 26.99 kmpl on its website.
This is similar to the mileage figures of the Tata Tigor CNG. However, the Punch CNG’s mileage is marginally lower than that of the Hyundai Xtor CNG, which Hyundai claims returns a mileage of 27.1 kmpl.
Basically, Tata’s CNG lineup now includes the Punch, the fourth model after the Tiago, Tigor, and Altroz. The Punch CNG is available in three trims: Pure, Adventure and also Accomplished. The latter two trims have the same optional packages as the regular Punch, but the CNG kit is not available on the top-spec Creative trim.

Lastly, Thermal incident protection is a system that automatically cuts off the supply of CNG to the engine and releases the gas in the cylinder to the atmosphere if the engine temperature reaches a critical level. Eventually, This helps to prevent the engine from overheating and catching fire.
